Captain America had his moment, but so did Captain Marvel.
With the world watching your every move, it must be impossible to bring together such a wonderful end to a decade long saga, which the Russo’s managed to do.
All the characters, the scripts, the special moments, and more, are impossible to keep together and maintain; so it would be difficult to add extra scenes at the end; however, for one character (captain marvel), they managed to add a whole fight scene for her.
In a recent interview, the editor of Endgame, Jeff Ford, stated:
“when Captain Marvel arrives, that was in the script from day one, the way she comes through the ship. We knew she was going to do that, but what we did alter and add and expand later, mostly because of how much we loved what Brie was doing with the character, was her fight with Thanos before he power punches her back.”
He also went along in detail about Anthony Russo, one of the directors of Endgame, came up with the idea:
“Anthony came up with the great idea. This was a reshoot, by the way, at the last minute — he had the great idea that Thanos pulls the power stone out of the gauntlet, and then he punches her with the raw power stone. That is a fantastic use of that prop and that story point, because that’s what you want. And we had to find a way that he could sideline Captain Marvel for a minute, because she’s so powerful, there’s no way to do it.”
In fairness, it was a nice side moment that allowed us to see the strengths and limits to both Thanos and Captain Marvel; ultimately, showing us that the stones are of greater strength than any hero.
What do you think of this final addition?
